Watch this video and see an example of dangerous teaching with a smile:
Dr. R. Scott Clark observes over at The Heidelblog:
Joel says that God says that we can’t eat pork or shell fish. What’s next? Righteousness through circumcision? If he’s going to ignore Mark 7:19 and Acts 10 why not Galatians 2-3 and Romans 4? There’s an indication in the clip that he’s headed that way. Does he not say something like “God helps those who help themselves”?
Dr. Clark has a point. It is not a far stretch to seeing Osteen advocating circumcision since it is “more healthy” than the alternative. It is legalism with a smile. Fun-loving Phariseeism perhaps.
The statement to which Dr. Clark refers is, “I believe that if I’ll do what I can to take care of myself, God will do what I can’t.” It occurs around the 2:37 mark. Osteen scholars: what exactly does he mean by that?
Tim,
I think Osteen said “can’t.” The “t” is clipped.
You might not have noticed; but he did not say excrement properly.

Thanks, Vaughn. Fixed.
